Uganda Drops Yellow Fever Certificate Requirement for Entry

The Paperwork Is Gone But The Vaccine Is Not

Uganda’s National Citizenship and Immigration Control officially confirmed on October 2, 2026 that a yellow fever vaccination certificate is no longer a mandatory requirement for entry. The change has been reflected on Uganda’s e-visa portal and immigration website. Travelers arriving at Entebbe International Airport and all other border crossings will no longer be asked to produce their yellow card as a condition of entry.

The documentary requirement has been removed. The health recommendation has not. Uganda remains a country where yellow fever transmission can occur, and WHO continues to recommend vaccination for all travelers aged 9 months and older visiting risk areas. An unvaccinated traveler in Uganda can also face certificate requirements at onward destinations, since many countries still require proof of yellow fever vaccination from travelers arriving from Uganda.

Note that many travel websites and government pages have not yet updated their Uganda entry guidance and continue to display the old requirement. The official confirmation comes directly from Uganda’s immigration authority, issued October 2, 2026.

How to protect yourself

  • Regardless of the entry requirement, the Yellow Fever vaccine is still highly recommended for Uganda and required in other parts of Africa. TravelBug Health is an official WHO-certified Yellow Fever Vaccination Center and can administer the vaccine and issue your International Certificate of Vaccination in a single visit.
  • Check yellow fever certificate requirements for any countries you transit through or travel to after Uganda.
  • Use insect repellent in forested and rural areas where yellow fever-carrying mosquitoes are most active. See our repellent guide.
  • During a pre-travel consultation, our team at TravelBug Health can review and administer vaccines such as yellow fever along with all other vaccines and medications recommended for your trip in a single appointment.

Questions or concerns?

Contact us at TravelBug Health. Removing the certificate requirement does not remove the risk, and yellow fever is fatal in a significant number of cases. As an official WHO-certified Yellow Fever Vaccination Center, we administer the vaccine and issue your International Certificate of Vaccination in a single visit, so you travel protected and fully documented for any onward destination that still requires proof.
