Seasonal Influenza Activity: North America and Europe

North America and Europe: Influenza Activity

As of the week of September 29 – October 5 in 2024, seasonal influenza (the Flu) activity is above the average in Europe, below the baseline in the US, and below the average in Canada.

Now (October) is the right time to get your seasonal Flu shot, to have immunity for the Flu season, which usually peaks in January and February in Arizona.  Data show that the current influenza vaccine formulations are well-matched to the circulating strains in North America and Europe.

COVID-19 continues to circulate and cause infections.   Currently available COVID-19 vaccine formulations in the U.S. cover the latest strains of the virus circulating around the world.

If you are traveling internationally, you are at increased risk of respiratory infections like the flu and COVID. Make sure you receive your immunizations at least 2 weeks prior to your departure.
