How Our Travel Clinic Works

From booking to boarding, we make pre-travel health preparation simple.

1

Book Your Consultation

Schedule online or by phone. We offer appointment times that work for working families, students, retirees, and business travelers. Let us know your destinations when booking so your specialist can prepare.

2

Get Your Health Assessment

Your travel medicine specialist conducts a comprehensive travel health assessment, reviewing your itinerary and health history alongside current CDC and WHO advisories for your specific destinations. You’ll walk out with an immunization plan, any necessary prescriptions, and practical health guidance tailored to your trip.

3

Travel Protected

Receive your travel vaccinations, medications or prescriptions, and a personalized health report with real-time country-specific alerts, all in one visit.

What’s Included in Your Pre-Travel Consultation

A comprehensive travel health assessment tailored to your unique trip, covering everything you need in a single appointment.

Individualized Risk Assessment

  • Your travel medicine specialist conducts a personalized travel health assessment, not a form letter, reviewing your exact destinations, planned activities, travel duration, and medical history to build an accurate picture of your destination-specific health risks.
  • We reference real-time CDC and WHO advisories for each country on your itinerary, including current outbreak data, regional disease alerts, and entry-requirement changes that your primary care physician may not track.
  • For Mesa’s diverse population, including travelers visiting family in Latin America, Asia, and Africa, we take cultural travel patterns into account, recognizing that visiting relatives in rural communities carries different risks than staying in urban hotels.

Travel Vaccines & Prescriptions

  • Yellow fever vaccine is administered on-site at our certified vaccination center with official international certificate of vaccination (ICVP) documentation, a required entry document for many African and South American countries.
  • We administer a full range of destination-appropriate vaccines: typhoid, hepatitis A and B, Japanese encephalitis, rabies, cholera, meningitis, and provide malaria prophylaxis prescriptions calibrated to the resistance patterns in your specific travel region.
  • Medications for malaria prophylaxis, traveler’s diarrhea, altitude sickness, and more, dispensed or prescribed during your visit.

Prevention Education & Travel Products

  • Counseling on food and water safety, insect bite prevention and other travel health risks unique to your itinerary
  • Mesa retirees and senior travelers receive guidance on managing existing health conditions internationally, including medication storage in varying climates, travel insurance considerations, and how to navigate medical care abroad if needed.
  • Insect bite prevention supplies always in-stock

Travel Vaccines Available at Our Mesa-Area Clinic

We stock all CDC-recommended travel vaccinations on-site. Most travelers receive their immunizations the same day as their consultation.

Malaria Prevention

Prescription antimalarial medications tailored to your specific travel destinations.

Routine Travel Boosters

Additional routine immunizations and boosters reviewed and updated based on your destination and health history.

Why Mesa Travelers Choose TravelBug Health

Mesa’s 500,000+ residents represent one of the most travel-diverse populations in Arizona: multigenerational families with international roots, a large and mobile student body at ASU Polytechnic, active retirees with time and resources to explore, and a significant business community with international client relationships. A travel clinic that serves Mesa well has to be capable across all of these traveler types, with the expertise to build a health plan that’s specific to where you’re actually going and how you’re actually traveling, not a one-size-fits-all vaccine sheet. That’s what TravelBug Health delivers at every appointment.

Our travel medicine specialists are board-certified and maintain current training on global disease trends, vaccination protocols, and country-specific health requirements. TravelBug Health operates as a designated yellow fever vaccination center, fully equipped to issue the internationally recognized certificate of vaccination required for entry to numerous countries across Africa and South America. From our Scottsdale clinic, approximately 25 minutes from Mesa via the US-60 West and Loop 101 North, we make expert travel medicine accessible to the entire East Valley.

What Mesa-Area Travelers Are Saying

Real reviews from patients who trusted TravelBug Health for their pre-travel health needs.

★★★★★

“I’m retired and my wife and I do one big international trip a year. This year it was a safari in Kenya and Botswana. Our regular doctor is great, but she flat-out told us to find a travel specialist for this one. TravelBug Health was thorough, efficient, and knew exactly what we needed. Yellow fever, typhoid, malaria meds. Everything handled in one visit. We traveled with total peace of mind.”

Travel Clinic FAQs for Mesa Patients

Don’t see your question? Call (480) 435-2774 or email us.

We recommend booking 4 to 6 weeks before departure. Several vaccines require multiple doses over a series of weeks, and some need time to take effect before exposure. However, travelers with less lead time should still come in. We can prioritize the most important protections and maximize what’s possible within your timeline.

Bring your travel itinerary or passport with destination stamps, your current vaccination records, and a list of medications you’re taking. The more detail you can provide about your trip, including specific countries, activities, rural vs. urban travel, and length of stay, the more precisely we can tailor your travel health assessment.

Travel vaccines are typically not covered by insurance as they are preventive for international travel. We accept all major credit cards and HSA/FSA payment. We provide upfront, transparent pricing so you know the costs before we begin. Some post-travel illness evaluations may qualify for insurance billing.

Yes, we see patients of all ages, including infants and children. Pediatric travel health planning includes age-appropriate vaccine schedules, dosing adjustments, and destination-specific guidance for parents. We’re experienced with family travel to Latin America, Europe, Asia, and beyond.

Study abroad programs typically have their own vaccination and health documentation requirements in addition to destination country requirements. We’re familiar with university health submission processes and can help you satisfy both sets of requirements. Bring your program’s health requirements form and we’ll work through it with you at your appointment.

Regular travel to Mexico, especially to cities, resorts, or business districts, may feel routine, but destination-specific risks are real even in popular business destinations. Hepatitis A and typhoid are relevant for travelers who eat local food, and traveler’s diarrhea can sideline even experienced Mexico travelers. A quick consultation ensures you’re current and gives you standby treatment options if needed.
