Peru: State of Emergency

The Government of Peru has declared a state of emergency in the capital of Lima and Callao regions until April 16, 2025. Thousands of Peruvians have taken to the streets protesting the escalation of criminal activity and the murder of a popular folk singer. The presence of heavily armed security forces should be expected. Travelers should maintain a high level of security awareness, carry a fully charged communication device, follow the advice of local authorities (including on how to handle health care emergencies), and monitor the situation through local media and embassy communications.
